Pom Pom Making Instructions

What you'll need

Cardboard

Compass, or two circular objects you can trace around.

Wool

Scissors

Method
To make a pom pom draw two circles on a piece of cardboard using a compass or circular object. Then draw two smaller circles in the centre of the larger circles on your cardboard. You can adjust the size of the circle depending on the size of the pom pom you want to make. Now cut around circles to the create 2 donut shapes. See Fig 1.

   Fig 1

Place the two donut shapes together and wind the wool around the rings.(See Figs 2 & 3)

Cut the wool into manageable lengths, perhaps 2 or 3 metres at a time. Hold one end on the outside of the ring and feed the other end through the hole, round the back and through the front again. Repeat this, working your way around the ring until all the cardboard is covered. Attach additional lengths of wool as needed.

Once your rings are fairly full of wool, cut the wool around the edges making sure the scissor blade is placed between the two pieces of cardboard as you are cutting. You might not be able to cut it all in one go so just do a few layers at a time. See Fig 4.

 Fig 4

Pass a length of wool between the two pieces of cardboard and tie it firmly together. Now you can remove the cardboard rings (cut them if necessary) and trim the pom pom to give it and even and tidy look.  See Fig 5.
